Immortalized by José Afonso, the "dark" town of Grandola was used as code for the Armed Forces Movement to initiate the revolution of the carnations, 25 April 1974.

The county of Grandola has today a unique environment and landscape wealth, where remain valuable ecosystems - the Natural Reserve of the Sado Estuary, the Botanical Reserve of Dunas de Troia and Serra de Grandola.

Among the various beaches in the county stand out Melides, Galé and Comporta.
