In its route passes through Panoias, Alvalade and Alcacer do Sal, with its estuary in front of Setúbal.

The flow of the river Sado is small due to the arid climate of the Alentejo where its source is to be found and the although small unevenness between the altitude of the spring and the altitude of estuary.
