Marvão
The origins of Marvão go back to the Roman period, when it was known as the Fortress of Ammaia. It would consist of a protective fortification of the city of Ammaia, founded in the 19th century. I in a valley above and whose remains can be visited today.

After being occupied by the Muslims, Marvão was reconquered between 1190 and 1191 by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Heriques to play throughout history an important strategic role due to its impressive location at 800 meters altitude.
